Have you ever had a gut feeling about something but weren’t sure if it was your intuition or your fear?. I am often asked by people how they can tell the difference between the two. Learning to distinguish between fear and intuition can be a challenge but it’s an essential skill for anyone who wants to live a more fulfilling life. In this post I will explore the differences between intuition and fear and offer some tips on how to better trust your inner voice.
What is Intuition?
Intuition is often described as a “sixth sense” or a “gut feeling.” It’s a subtle yet powerful force that guides us towards our highest good. Intuition is not based on logic, thoughts or reason but on a deep sense of knowing that comes from within.
Intuition can manifest in many different ways. For some people it’s a physical sensation such as a tingling in the body or a feeling of warmth. For others it’s an inner voice that whispers guidance or wisdom. Some people may even experience intuition as a series of synchronicities or coincidences that point the way forward for them.
What is Fear?
Fear is an emotion that is designed to keep us safe from harm. It’s a natural response to perceived danger and can be a powerful motivator for action. Fear is very often based on our past experiences.
Fear can manifest in many different ways. For some people it’s a physical sensation such as a racing heart or sweaty palms. For others it’s a mental state such as worry or anxiety. Some people may even experience fear as indecision.
Intuition vs Fear: How to Tell the Difference
Learning to distinguish between intuition and fear can be a challenge but there are some key differences to look for. Here are a few tips:
- Intuition is calm, while fear is agitated: When you’re listening to your intuition you’ll often feel a sense of peace, calm and clarity. Fear on the other hand will be accompanied by a sense of agitation or unease.
- Intuition is expansive while fear is constrictive: Intuition tends to open up new possibilities and opportunities while fear shuts them down. If you’re feeling expansive and excited about a new idea or opportunity it’s a good sign you’re following your intuition. If you’re feeling closed off or limited it’s more likely fear is holding you back.
