In an Instagram Q&A, someone recently asked me about the difference between spirits and ghosts. I only briefly touched on the topic in the Q&A, but I want to provide a more detailed explanation. Although many people use the words spirits and ghosts interchangeably, there is actually a significant difference between the two.
Spirits are individuals who have lived a life and have passed away before us. Our passed loved ones. Spirits reside in the afterlife or spirit world, but are drawn back to this world by their love and desire to connect with their loved ones they left behind. They want us to feel comfort and reassurance in their presence, and they often go to great lengths to make their presence known to us. We may see them, hear them, dream of them, receive messages from them, or they may communicate with mediums or those who are sensitive to their presence.
Ghosts are often associated with a sense of unease, fear, or the paranormal world, but ghosts are just someone's past emotions or memories trapped in a space. As an example, when someone has expressed an intense emotion at some point in time, such as sadness or rage, that intense emotion can leave an energetic imprint in the space it was expressed. When intuitive or sensitive people go into that space where the intense emotion was once expressed, they will pick up on it. For the intuitive or sensitive person it can often feel as though they are experiencing a movie on repeat, as the energy of the intense emotion never changes or does anything different, it is simply held there in space and time.
Understanding the difference between spirits and ghosts can help us to better navigate our experiences with the afterlife and spiritual realms, and make a true connection with those who have passed on.
